Good to know before you arrive

Choo choo! All aboard the Toy Town express, final destination: NordicFuzzCon in Malmö, Sweden. Are you ready to join us?

We hope that you are as excited as we are for the fun times ahead, with creatures of all kinds gathering from all over the world in our colourful venue. Meet old friends, make new friends, and allow yourself to take a break from everyday life.

On this page we have compiled some practical information to help you prepare for the convention, and hopefully make your attendance as smooth as possible. There are a number of events that will be even better if you prepare and pack for them, so be sure to read through this page thoroughly.

See you at the convention!

Hotel information

Alcohol Policy

NordicFuzzCon and its attendees are required to adhere to hotel rules and Swedish laws regarding alcohol. Every attendee will be required to read and sign the Alcohol Policy before receiving their Badge.
The Alcohol Policy can be found here.

Checking In

You can check into your hotel room from 15:00 onwards (and basically as late as you want.) If you know you will arrive very late, e.g. around midnight or later, it is best to let the hotel know in advance.

Checking into your room earlier may be possible, but this depends on whether the room has been prepared or not, thus it cannot be guaranteed.

Our hotel FAQ can be found here.

Parking

There is a parking garage underneath the Clarion, but the hotel does not own it. The garage is owned by the Malmö municipality and the cost is 260 SEK per day for parking. There are also other parking garages nearby such as Slagthuset Garage, at 200 SEK per day, and P-hus Bagers plats, at 250 SEK per day.

Here is a good online map to help you plan ahead and research your options. Be aware that not all locations are open 24/7.

Breakfast

All accommodation booked through the convention has breakfast included. Please check with the reception desk of your hotel which breakfast times apply. Note that breakfast is only included at the hotel you stay at.

Checking out

Check-out times vary between hotels. Please check with the reception desk during check-in which check-out times apply. If you know that you might be late it is always best to organise this with the reception ahead of time.

Wi-Fi

All public areas at the conference centre have free wireless internet access. The same applies to most hotel room floors. Keep in mind that there will be a lot of devices, so the network may get busy. Please try to limit yourself to one connected device at a time.

Room Sharing

If you either do not have a room share, or your room share has not been filled, one or more room share partners have been assigned to your room by the convention (single rooms excluded). You can see your room share by logging in and checking your registration details.

Please remember that you have to sleep in your own room, even if you stay at the same hotel.

Door Signs

If you are staying at the Clarion Hotel (convention centre), Moment Hotel, or one of the Elite Hotels, you may put up a door sign in a non-destructive manner. To do so please use Blu Tack.

If you are staying with Best Western please do not put up door signs as is not allowed due to fire regulations.

Please don’t forget to remove your door sign before you check-out.

Convention information

Bring a Valid Photo ID!

Remember to bring a valid photo ID. It is required to pick up your badge at the convention check-in desk, and may be required at the hotel's reception desk when you check in to your room. Passports are the most preferred form of ID.

Swedish Krona and Credit Cards

Cash is not required in Sweden as most (if not all) transactions can be made using a credit or debit card. Please note that most hotels, including the Clarion, are cash free, meaning that they only accept payment by card (at the reception, in the bar, at restaurants, etc.).

The convention check-in desk and the con store only accepts payment by card as well as the local Swedish payment provider, Swish. In the Dealers’ Den and nerdMarket it is up to each individual dealer to decide which currencies and payment methods to accept, some cash may be useful here.

In order to reflect these changes, the Charity department of NordicFuzzCon has invested in card terminals for charity donations. However cash is still accepted. This makes it possible for you to donate to the NordicFuzzCon charity using credit cards, Swish and Swedish krona.

Where’s My Convention Ticket?

No “convention ticket” is needed! If you have registered for the convention you are in our database, and a valid photo ID is all you need for identification.

Badge Check Points

As we are located at the centre of Malmö city there are always non-furries out and about. This increases the requirement on the convention to make sure that all attendees can be themselves and have a good time. Therefore, there will be an entrance badge checkpoint, where everyone is required to show their convention badge (even when fursuiting).
Like all previous years, attendees are required to visibly wear their badges at all times during the convention.

Posters

In the past, we have allowed attendees to put up posters almost anywhere. This has made it difficult to tidy up after the convention as it is hard to find all the posters. Further, some posters have been put up using methods which have damaged hotel property.

Therefore, we will only allow posters to be hung up in designated areas, called “poster walls”, and other promotional material such as flyers, business cards etc. to be placed on the tables dedicated to this purpose. All such areas will be clearly marked. Please put up only one poster per poster wall (multiple posters will be removed) and make sure there is space left for other posters too. If we find posters not put up by the NFC organisation outside of these areas, these posters will be removed and thrown away. The same goes for flyers and business cards.

Streaming

We will be streaming at times during the convention. These streams will feature certain live events, our mascot cams, as well as the lobby and other public areas. Hotel rooms and other areas where privacy can be expected will of course be exempt from any streaming.

As the main stage can be very crowded for certain events due to the increased number of attendees, you can view the stream in certain areas in the lobby, in your hotel room (if you stay at the Clarion), and on NordicFuzzCon’s mobile website.

Mobile Website

The convention has a special website that will be available during the convention. It will be used for information, maps, current charity status, catching fursuiters, unlocking achievements and more, so remember to check it out.

You can find the link in the menu of the NordicFuzzCon website a few days before the convention starts, however you need to be logged in through the NordicFuzzCon portal and checked-in at the con to access it.

Volunteering During the Convention

We need all the help we can get during the convention. If you wish to volunteer your time in exchange for a small reward, then visit ConOps in the lobby and one flight of stairs down. They will be able to assist you. There is also a SOUP meeting on Tuesday that you are free to go to to learn about this as well as a Recruitment Session on Sunday if you want to help with the next NFC.

Helpful Tips + 6-2-1 Rule

Your phone is your most important tool to keep track of what is going on and in touch with people. A power bank helps a lot to make the battery last through the entire day.

Malmö can be cold and windy so don’t forget to bring appropriate outdoor clothes.

We know that a convention is a fun place to be at, and it is easy to forget to eat or sleep. However, you are not doing yourself a favour by forgetting this so please try to follow this simple rule which will make your, and everyone else’s, experience so much better:
6-2-1 rule; at least 6 hours of sleep, 2 good meals, and 1 shower a day.

Events

Below is a list of useful information in preparation for certain events. See the event schedule for a detailed list of all events. If you are running an event during the convention, remember to show up at least 10 minutes prior to the starting time.

Ceremonies, the Open House, and Fursuit Parade

The opening ceremony will start on Wednesday, February 22nd, at 18:00 CET.
The closing ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 26th, at 12:00 CET.

As usual we will have the Open House, where we allow the public to visit the convention. This will take place on Friday, February 24th, between 12:00 and 19:00 CET with the outdoor fursuit parade starting at 13:30.

More information about the Open House can be found by visiting the following page.

Tuesday Excursions

Remember to bring appropriate clothing. Fursuiting is welcome but might not always be possible at every location. The buses depart on Tuesday (early arrival day) at noon.

No ticket? If there are spaces available 5-10 minutes before departure, then you will be allowed to buy a ticket for the excursion. These will be sold next to the buses and are first come first served.

Lottery Booth

If you have anything small you would like to donate, you can bring it to the charity lottery booth.

Nerfgun War

Did you know that you can bring your own Nerfgun to the event? Just remember to inform and show the registration team when you are checking in.

Bring Your Blåhaj to the NordicFuzzCon Blåhaj Event

Most of you have these at home, and why would they not be allowed to tag along. Remember to label yours properly so you can identify it after the event is over.

International Snack Exchange

Bring snacks from your country to the international snack exchange! Since the popularity of this event is growing, we prefer that people sign up ahead of time.
Tables are first come first serve. We will try to make room for everyone, but no guarantees are made if you have not signed up in advance.

nerdMarket

During the Open House event at NordicFuzzCon, the nerdMarket will be setting up a one-day market with focus on all things nerdy. Expect to find retro video games, crafts, fan art, retro toys, Japanese stuff, and much more!
Read more here.

Botanical Furs Meet and Greet

This event allows for trade of seeds or even cuttings if you can bring them. Do bring your seeds and see what you can get.

Skate Furs, Unite!

There will be a skate fur event and there is a skate rink not too far from the hotel. Just remember to not skate inside the hotel.

Furry Merch Trading Event

Looking for that one pin you would trade something from your own collection for? Or perhaps looking to trade unsold merchandise for other cool things? Be sure to attend our trading event and leave with some new goodies!

Fuzzjam and Jam Café sessions

On Thursday we’ll have a piano, drums, bass and guitar at the small stage near the Maid Café, where you can come and jam together at the different sessions, entertaining the people at the café or your own audience after they have closed. If you can bring some instruments of your own, feel free to join in with whatever you got.

Boat Parties

Our party boat returns! You can find it docked about a 5 minute walk from the Clarion.

We cannot sell alcohol, so anything you want to bring to the party you need to bring on your own, but the more you share the more people will share with you, bring what you don’t want to haul back home and we will empty it with you at the Dead Dog party. (Please see the "Alcohol Policy" at the top for more information)

Craft Beer Furries Meet and Greet

In this event, every beer gives you 2 tokens to try other beers for. Bring something fun and share! Taste and discuss what everyone has brought. (Please see the "Alcohol Policy" at the top for more information)

NSFW Events and NSFW Meet and Greets

The dress code for the convention allows collars, since it is such an integral part of the fandom, but not much more. However we offer some opportunities to dress a little more risque. Most of these events – marked NSFW in the schedule – will be in enclosed event spaces with less strict dress codes than the ordinary convention space. Remember to always read the rules for these events, as they differ depending on where they are held. If you are unsure, please contact ConOps and they will be able to assist you further.

Is This Your First Furry Convention?

As a first time attendee it can be hard to know where to go and what to do at the convention. Below are a few events we recommend to all first timers that should help you to make the most out of your convention-going experience:

  • Opening Ceremony, Wednesday at 18:00 on Main Stage (High Live 1)
  • So This Is Your First Furry Con?, Wednesday at 16:30 and again at 19:30 (right after the opening ceremony) on Main Stage
  • Pub Quiz, Wednesday at 21:30 on Main Stage
  • The Snack Exchange, Thursday at 14:30 on the party boat
  • Any Meet and Greet (see the schedule)
  • Charity and Guest of Honour/Northern Light events (see the schedule)

We also recommend that you take the time to look through the Conbook and other material that you are given when you check in at the registration desk, as it contains a lot of useful information.

Your first furry convention can be an overwhelming experience as you will meet a lot of new people. If you have any questions or just want to see a friendly face, ConOps located in the lobby is the place to visit.

Also, don't forget to visit our mobile website! There you can find maps, the events schedule, achievement hunting, the fursuit catch 'em all game, and more.

Health and sickness prevention

It is currently the flu season and will be for several more months. For those of you who are able, please consider getting the flu vaccine.

We likewise encourage all attendees, who are able, to get fully vaccinated against COVID as it still poses a real risk to public health. Please read our full COVID policy here.

In the meantime, it is important to remember some basic steps to avoid getting sick and to help prevent the spread of illness if you do become sick:

  • Wash your hands regularly. Alcogel works, but soap and water are by far the best.
  • Drink plenty of water, eat well, and try to get at least six hours of sleep a day.
  • Sneeze or cough into the crook of your arm.
  • If you are sick, please avoid public places and meetings unless absolutely necessary.

Insurance

Whenever you travel abroad, it's always recommended to have travel insurance, should an accident happen or you get sick and need to see a doctor. Your home insurance usually covers shorter trips, so make sure you have all those papers in order.

If you are insured or covered by a state's social security system in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Switzerland, you can get a European Health Insurance card. This will make you eligible for receiving the same health care at the same price as people in the country you are visiting. It means that you won't have to pay full price for a visit, which could be as much as 10 times the price you would pay with the insurance.

The card is FREE, and you can get it from your state's health insurance institution. For more info and links to specific states institutions, visit this page.

It is also important to keep in mind this is not an alternative to travel insurance.

Social Media Channels

We are active on Telegram, Facebook, and Twitter! You can find links to all of these and our other social media channels by visiting this page.
